Home Trust: A Canadian Sub-Prime Mortgage Pioneer

Home Trust took on a line of business that nobody wanted: sub-prime mortgages (industry insiders also refer to this as "B Business"). When Home Trust started, it seems that most financial institutions didn't want to touch customers who had a less than stellar financial history. Home Trust showed no fear. Through their clever and highly skilled underwriting process, Home Trust broke ground where no financial institution dared tread before. Today, financial institutions are clamouring for this type of business. Yet it was financial institutions like Home Trust who showed that it could be done - and done profitably.

Home Trust: The Bottom Line

The Home Capital Group's financial record is remarkable.

  • 8 consecutive years with Return on Equity over 20%
  • 36.6% increase in earnings (FY2004 to FY2005)
  • 35.4% increase in earnings per share (FY2004 to FY2005)
  • $3.28 billion in total assets. (at end of FY2005)

Home Trust and Portfolio Plus

Home Trust first purchased Portfolio Plus in 2001, beginning with the Loans, Investments, Term Deposits, and Accounting. Later, Home Trust purchased Office Link for the production of documents associated with mortgages and mortgage servicing.
